1982年生． 2004年 北海道大学 工学部 情報工学科 卒業． 2006年 東京工業大学 大学院情報理工学研究科 計算工学専攻 修士課程 修了． 2008年 同専攻 博士後期課程 修了． 博士（工学）． 同大学 助教，准教授，教授を経て，2024年より東京科学大学 情報理工学院 教授． ソフトウェア進化やソフトウェア開発環境に関する研究に従事し，情報工学系においてSoftware Evolution Group（林研究室）を主宰．
